OET (Occupational English Test) is a revered international English Language Test for healthcare professionals. Incorporated in the late 1980s and under agreement with the Australian Federal Government, OET is owned by Cambridge Assessment English a non-profitable department of the University of Cambridge, and Box Hill Institute a leading Australian vocational and higher education provider worldwide. OET has been designed predominantly to consider workplace tasks for 12 healthcare professionals, namely Dentistry, Dietetics, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography, Speech Pathology, and Veterinary Science. The test modules comprise Listening (Parts A,B,C) Speaking (Specific to profession and based on typical workplace situations), Reading (Parts A, B, C) and Writing (Specific to profession, and based on typical workplace situations). However, in OET heavy emphasis is on clinical communication skills, which will facilitate obtaining a high grade. Most reputed boards and councils require candidate to obtain at least a ‘B’ grade in each of the four sub-tests.
